Pints, Forks & Friends Field Notes

With the explosion of craft breweries popping up everywhere, I was so happy when a local home brewer decided to take the jump and open a real brewery right in our home town of Wadsworth, Ohio. Brewer, Ernie Joy and wife Ericha Fryfogle-Joy launched Wadsworth Brewing Co. back in January and it is thriving! WBC creates unique craft beers that push flavor boundaries, along with classic styles. Their goal is to establish Wadsworth Brewing Company as a community-friendly business that supports the vision of downtown Wadsworth.

Pints, Forks & Friends Field Notes

Some other favorite local spots in Wadsworth, Ohio are Filia Cellars Winery, which is located on Greenwich Rd. -right next to the Weltzien Skypark (Airport). The winery is in a beautifully restored house once owned by Mitch and Lisa Locklear on “Acme Hill”. Filia Cellar’s dry reds come from their family estate in California, and all other wines are produced using the finest Ohio grown grapes and fruits. If you get lucky, you can catch local food trucks like Zydeco Bistro serving the winery and other local spots around town. Owner/Chef, Johnny Schulze was born and raised in Louisiana, and is known for bringing cajun, creole style food to Northeast Ohio. For desert, make sure you save room for the local ice cream spot called Bidinger’s, located in the shop section of downtown near the football stadium. They serve homemade ice cream, soft serve ice cream, and frozen yogurt.

Side Notes

  • Wadsworth Brewery has great names for their beers like “Bad Motivator”, “Gimmie S’more”, “Funky Cold Medina” etc.

  • Bidinger’s has $1 cones for babies… How cool is that? Homemade ice creme is the best around town
